A specialist in Pediatric Dentistry. I had completed three additional years of Post Graduation/Residency training (M.D.S) after completing my Dental Graduation Course(B.D.S) to become an expert in treating children.
Also known as a Pedodontist (Child Dental Disease Specialist) , specializes in the oral health of children from infancy through the teen years. I Am trained to handle the unique dental issues that can arise as children grow and develop.
By focusing on early intervention, tailored treatments, and preventive care, Pediatric dentists like me set the foundation for lifelong oral health which can significantly reduce the risk of dental problems later in life.
Initial Examination and Medical History
Purpose: Understanding the child’s overall health and any conditions that might affect dental treatment.
Process: The dentist or dental hygienist will ask the parents about the child’s medical history, including any allergies, medications, past surgeries, and chronic conditions. This information helps in tailoring the dental care to the child’s specific needs.
Visual Examination
Purpose: To identify any visible signs of dental issues such as cavities, gum disease, or misalignment.
Process: Inspection of Teeth: The dentist uses a small mirror and a dental probe to examine each tooth for signs of decay or damage.
Gum Health Check: The gums are checked for redness, swelling, or bleeding, which can indicate gum disease.
Oral Tissues: The dentist also examines the tongue, cheeks, and roof of the mouth for any abnormalities or lesions.
Steps in Visual Examination Preparation:
The child is seated comfortably in the dental chair. The dentist explains the procedure to the child to make them feel at ease.
Use of Dental Mirror: A small, angled mirror is used to see the back sides of the teeth and other hard-to- see areas.
Dental Probe: This tool helps in checking the surface of the teeth for any soft spots or cavities.
Gum Examination: The dentist gently probes the gums to check for any signs of gum disease.
Oral Tissues Check: The dentist looks at the soft tissues in the mouth for any signs of infection or other issues.
